How to lunge a horse help bring her into a healthier frame of body and calmer state of mind. This video focuses on: 1) how your alignment to the horse affects how well she lunges, 2) how to best use a whip* as an extension of your body 3) the effect pushing on different areas of the body have on the horse. *This video was made before I started using positive reinforcement with horses. I know longer use whips. However, even back then I wasn't using the whip to hit or scare the horse. I encourage you to watch this video with the intention of learning the alignment and body language that helps the horse understand what he or she is being asked to do.

In the reverse round pen, you are in the inside of the circle and your horse is on the outside. You can make a simple "round pen" by laying poles in a circle. In this vide, Shawna Karrasch demonstrates how to introduce the reverse round pen to your horse. It's a fun way to interact with your horse while giving him/her the choice to participate. I like to start by teaching the horse "touch" (to my hand or an object) before introducing the reverse round pen.

Does your horse bulge his shoulder out when riding a corner or circle? In this video, I'm coaching one of my students to correct this common problem. The common mistake many riders make when their horse is bulging out the shoulder is to use more inside rein - trying to pull the horse into the turn. What's needed is more outside leg and rein AND that the rider has the correct position.

Anne Gage

Anne Gage, The Horse Riding Confidence Coach, began specialising in helping anxious horse riders after losing her own riding confidence while she was a professional riding coach and horse trainer!

As a recovered anxious rider, Anne knows what it’s like to be truly terrified to ride. She also knows how important the relationship between horse and rider is for confidence.

Anne’s unique coaching includes riding and horsemanship skills combined with qualifications in equine behaviour, NLP, and hypnosis. (But don’t worry, she won’t have you clucking like a chicken!).

Anne is a popular clinician, a regular contributor to Horse Canada magazine and The Rider, and the author of the book, Confident Rider Confident Horse.
